Overview

A tense, psychological hybrid of FPS and RPG mechanics. Players explore the abandoned starship Von Braun, fighting mutants while manipulated by the iconic rogue AI, SHODAN. It is arguably the most atmospheric survival horror experience on the PC. You must scavenge for food, nurse your limited ammunition, and carefully choose which skills to upgrade. The ship itself feels like a living, breathing, and hostile character. You learn the tragic history of the crew through audio logs that you find scattered in dark corners, creating a narrative that is both personal and terrifying. Every sound behind a bulkhead, every flickering light, and every piece of corrupted technology forces you to make desperate choices that define whether you survive for another hour or become another corpse in the halls of the Von Braun. It is a masterclass in environmental storytelling and dread.

Behind The Scenes

Originally pitched as a generic tactical shooter, the project pivoted to a System Shock sequel midway through production. The famous haunting audio logs were a cost saving necessity that became the game's defining design pillar, allowing the team to tell an intricate narrative without expensive cinematics. The Dark Engine was pushed to its absolute limit, with the team coding complex AI routines where mutants would communicate with each other and actively patrol the ship.
