Overview

You are Manny Calavera, a cynical, skeletal travel agent operating inside the Department of Death within the Land of the Dead. Your job is to sell luxury luxury travel packages to recently departed souls making their four year journey to the Ninth Underworld. When you uncover a massive, systemic corporate conspiracy where virtuous souls are being systematically robbed of their tickets, you embark on a four year epic journey of crime, jazz, and salvation to fix the system.

Behind The Scenes

Tim Schafer helmed the production team that built the new GrimE engine, completely replacing the decades old 2D SCUMM engine. The system engine discarded point and click mouse controls entirely to favor tank controls using a standard keyboard or joystick matrix. Character positions were rendered as real time 3D polygonal models moving smoothly over gorgeous, static, pre rendered 2D background frames, creating a unique cinematic art deco style.
