Hapless pirate Guybrush Threepwood accidentally proposes to his true love, Elaine Marley, using a cursed diamond ring found in the treasure hoard of the undead pirate LeChuck. The curse instantly transforms Elaine into a solid gold statue. Guybrush must assemble a bizarre pirate crew, sail to the dangerous Plunder Island, outwit rival buccaneers, and lift the curse before LeChuck’s skeletal armada tracks him down.

This was the first Monkey Island game built without series creator Ron Gilbert, and the first to introduce full voice acting, casting Dominic Armato as the definitive voice of Guybrush. It utilized an upgraded iteration of the classic SCUMM engine configured for a high-resolution 640x480 SVGA display asset tier, rendering the hand-drawn backgrounds with stunning cartoon clarity.
